About Our Orthopaedics Department

Our orthopaedics department in Dubai diagnoses and treats conditions of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and spine. Whether you have been searching for an orthopaedic surgeon in Dubai, a knee specialist near me, or help with persistent back pain, shoulder pain or a sports injury, our team assesses the problem properly and explains every option before anything is decided.

Our guiding principle is conservative care first. The large majority of orthopaedic problems — including most back pain, tendon injuries, early arthritis and many sports injuries — improve with accurate diagnosis, targeted physiotherapy, activity modification, bracing, medication and image-guided injections. Surgery is recommended only when it offers a clear advantage over these measures, and never as a default.

Because our orthopaedic and physiotherapy teams work inside the same clinic, your rehabilitation plan is built alongside your diagnosis rather than weeks later. Patients treated here move directly from orthopaedic assessment into orthopaedic physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy, pain management physiotherapy or shockwave therapy, with both teams reviewing progress together.

We also work closely with our sports medicine, radiology, rheumatological physiotherapy and general surgery departments. Where a condition needs major joint replacement, complex spinal surgery or inpatient trauma care, we investigate fully, stabilise you, and refer to an appropriate hospital partner — then continue your post-operative rehabilitation with us.

Our Approach

Three Principles That Define Our Orthopaedic Care

Diagnose precisely, treat conservatively wherever it works, and rehabilitate properly afterwards.

Precise Diagnosis

Clinical examination combined with the right imaging — because treating the wrong structure is the most common reason orthopaedic pain persists.

Surgery Only When It Helps

We recommend an operation when evidence shows it will outperform conservative care for your specific condition — and we say so plainly when it will not.

Rehabilitation Is Treatment

Strength, mobility and load tolerance are what actually return you to normal life. Physiotherapy is planned from day one, not bolted on at the end.

Our Services

Core Orthopaedic Services

From acute injury through to long-term joint and spine care.

Fracture & Trauma Care

Assessment, casting, splinting and immobilisation of fractures, with surgical fixation arranged through our hospital partners when displacement or instability requires it.

Joint Pain & Arthritis Management

Structured management of knee, hip, shoulder and hand osteoarthritis — weight and load management, exercise therapy, medication, bracing and injections to delay or avoid replacement.

Joint & Soft-Tissue Injections

Corticosteroid, hyaluronic acid and PRP injections for arthritic joints, bursitis and stubborn tendon pain — performed with ultrasound guidance for accuracy where indicated.

Sports Injury Management

Ligament sprains, meniscus tears, rotator-cuff injuries, tendinopathy and muscle tears — diagnosed, treated and returned to sport alongside our sports medicine team.

Spine, Back & Neck Care

Assessment of mechanical back pain, disc problems, sciatica and neck pain, with a rehabilitation-led plan and onward referral for the minority that need spinal intervention.

Shockwave & Advanced Therapy

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, Achilles and other chronic tendinopathies that have not settled with standard physiotherapy.

Fractures & Trauma
  • When to Come In — Any injury with significant swelling, deformity, inability to bear weight or use the limb, or pain that does not settle over a few days, needs assessment and imaging.
  • Assessment — Clinical examination plus X-ray, with further imaging where a fracture is suspected but not visible on initial films.
  • Non-Surgical Treatment — Many fractures heal well in a cast, splint or boot with a structured follow-up and repeat imaging to confirm alignment and union.
  • When Surgery Is Needed — Displaced, unstable, intra-articular or open fractures require surgical fixation, which we arrange promptly through our hospital partners.
  • Afterwards — Stiffness and weakness after immobilisation are normal and treatable; rehabilitation with our physiotherapy team restores movement and strength.
Osteoarthritis & Joint Pain
  • What It Is — Progressive wear of joint cartilage, most commonly in the knees, hips, hands and shoulders, causing pain, stiffness and reduced function.
  • Not Inevitable Decline — Symptoms fluctuate and respond well to treatment. The degree of pain often does not match what appears on the X-ray.
  • First-Line Treatment — Exercise therapy and strengthening, weight management with our dietetics team, activity modification, footwear and bracing, and appropriate pain relief.
  • Injections — Corticosteroid injections for flare-ups, and hyaluronic acid or PRP in selected knee osteoarthritis cases, to improve comfort and buy time.
  • Joint Replacement — Considered when pain is persistent, disabling and unresponsive to everything above. We assess suitability, refer for surgery, and handle rehabilitation afterwards.
Sports Injuries
  • Common Presentations — Ankle sprains, hamstring and calf tears, ACL and meniscus injuries, rotator-cuff tears, tennis and golfer’s elbow, and Achilles tendinopathy.
  • Accurate Grading Matters — Treatment and return-to-sport timelines differ sharply between a grade 1 and grade 3 injury, so proper assessment comes before any plan.
  • Treatment — Early load management, progressive strengthening, manual therapy, shockwave for chronic tendinopathy, and injections in selected cases.
  • Return-to-Sport Testing — Objective criteria rather than calendar dates, coordinated with our sports medicine and sports physiotherapy teams to reduce re-injury.
  • Prevention — Identifying the strength, mobility or training-load factor that caused the injury, so the same thing does not happen next season.
Back Pain, Neck Pain & Sciatica
  • Most Back Pain Is Mechanical — It is not caused by serious disease and improves with movement, exercise and time rather than prolonged rest or scanning.
  • Sciatica — Leg pain, numbness or tingling caused by nerve-root irritation, often from a disc bulge. The majority settle substantially within weeks with correct management.
  • When Imaging Is Justified — Progressive weakness, significant trauma, or pain that fails to respond to appropriate treatment. Routine early scanning frequently finds harmless changes and confuses the picture.
  • Red Flags — Seek Urgent Care — Loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, or rapidly worsening leg weakness requires emergency assessment, not an outpatient appointment.
  • Treatment — Graded activity, physiotherapy-led rehabilitation, pain management, and referral for injection or surgical opinion in the minority who need it.
Shoulder & Upper-Limb Conditions
  • Rotator-Cuff Problems — Tendinopathy, impingement and tears causing pain on overhead reaching and difficulty sleeping on the affected side.
  • Frozen Shoulder — Progressive stiffness and pain, more common in people with diabetes; responds to injection and a sustained stretching programme.
  • Tennis & Golfer’s Elbow — Overuse tendinopathy of the elbow, treated with load management, strengthening and shockwave therapy for stubborn cases.
  • Hand & Wrist — Carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis and thumb-base arthritis, managed with splinting, injection or referral for release.
  • Rehabilitation Focus — Upper-limb conditions relapse without strength work; our physiotherapy plans target the cause, not only the sore spot.
Foot, Ankle & Knee
  • Plantar Fasciitis — Sharp heel pain, worst on first steps in the morning; treated with calf and foot loading programmes, orthotics and shockwave therapy.
  • Achilles Tendinopathy — Common in runners and in people who increase activity quickly; managed with progressive tendon loading rather than rest alone.
  • Ankle Sprains — Frequently undertreated, leading to recurrent instability. Balance and strength rehabilitation substantially reduce re-injury risk.
  • Knee Ligament & Meniscus Injuries — Assessed clinically and with imaging; many meniscal tears are managed successfully without surgery.
  • Patellofemoral (Kneecap) Pain — Very common, especially in younger and active patients, and highly responsive to targeted hip and quadriceps strengthening.
Injections & Non-Surgical Procedures
  • Corticosteroid Injections — Reduce inflammation and pain in arthritic joints, bursitis and frozen shoulder, creating a window in which rehabilitation becomes possible.
  • Hyaluronic Acid — Viscosupplementation for selected knee osteoarthritis patients seeking to improve comfort and function.
  • PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) — Autologous injection used for certain tendon injuries and early osteoarthritis where standard treatment has plateaued.
  • Ultrasound Guidance — Improves accuracy for deeper or smaller targets, which improves results and reduces discomfort.
  • Realistic Expectations — Injections manage symptoms and enable rehabilitation; they are part of a plan, not a standalone cure.
Osteoporosis & Bone Health
  • Why It Matters — Weakened bone leads to fractures from minor falls, most seriously at the hip, spine and wrist.
  • Who Is at Risk — Post-menopausal women, people on long-term steroids, those with low body weight, smokers, and anyone with a previous fragility fracture.
  • Assessment — Fracture-risk evaluation, bone-density scanning where indicated, and bloodwork including vitamin D and calcium.
  • Treatment — Vitamin D and calcium optimisation, weight-bearing and resistance exercise, and bone-protective medication where risk warrants it.
  • Falls Prevention — Balance and strength training with our physiotherapy team, which reduces fracture risk as directly as medication does.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions we receive about orthopaedic care at Chughtai Clinic Dubai.

1 When should I see an orthopaedic doctor in Dubai?
See an orthopaedic specialist if you have joint or bone pain lasting more than two to three weeks, an injury with significant swelling or inability to bear weight, a joint that locks or gives way, night pain, or back or neck pain that is not improving. Suspected fractures, obvious deformity and injuries with numbness or weakness should be assessed urgently.
2 Do I need surgery for my joint or back problem?
Usually not. The majority of orthopaedic conditions — including most back pain, tendon injuries, early arthritis and many sports injuries — are managed successfully without surgery using physiotherapy, load management, bracing, medication and injections. We recommend an operation only when the evidence shows it will clearly outperform those options for your specific condition.
3 What is the difference between orthopaedics and physiotherapy?
Orthopaedics is the medical and surgical specialty that diagnoses bone, joint and soft-tissue conditions and delivers treatments such as casting, injections and surgery. Physiotherapy is the rehabilitation specialty that restores movement, strength and function. The two work together, and at our clinic both are available in the same building so the plan stays joined up.
4 Do you perform joint replacement surgery at the clinic?
Joint replacement and other major orthopaedic operations are inpatient hospital procedures. We provide the full assessment, confirm whether replacement is genuinely indicated, refer you to an appropriate hospital partner with your complete workup, and then manage your post-operative rehabilitation with our physiotherapy team.
5 Will I need an MRI?
Not always. Many conditions are diagnosed clinically or with X-ray and ultrasound alone. MRI is valuable for suspected ligament, meniscus, disc and occult fracture problems, but scanning everyone early often reveals age-related changes that are not the source of the pain. We request imaging when it will genuinely change your treatment.
6 Are steroid injections safe, and how long do they last?
Corticosteroid injections are safe when used appropriately and spaced sensibly. Relief typically lasts from several weeks to several months and varies by condition. They are most effective when used to create a window of reduced pain in which rehabilitation can progress, rather than as a repeated standalone treatment.
7 How long does recovery from a sports injury take?
It depends on the tissue and the grade of injury — a mild ankle sprain may take two to three weeks, while an ACL reconstruction requires nine to twelve months of structured rehabilitation. We set return-to-sport milestones using objective strength and function testing rather than the calendar, which lowers the risk of re-injury.
8 Do you treat children’s orthopaedic problems?
We assess common paediatric musculoskeletal complaints such as sports injuries, growth-related knee and heel pain, and gait concerns, and our paediatric physiotherapy service supports children’s rehabilitation. Complex paediatric orthopaedic conditions are referred to a specialist paediatric orthopaedic service.
9 Is orthopaedic treatment covered by my insurance?
We offer direct billing with all major UAE insurers. Coverage for consultations, imaging, injections and physiotherapy sessions varies by policy, so our reception team verifies your eligibility and explains any co-payment before your appointment.
