About Our Cardiology Department

Our cardiology department in Dubai provides comprehensive assessment and long-term management of heart and circulatory conditions. Whether you have been searching for a heart specialist in Dubai, need an ECG or echocardiogram near me, or want a structured heart check-up, our specialist cardiology team evaluates your risk, explains what the numbers mean, and builds a plan you can actually follow.

Most heart disease is preventable, and most of it is silent until it is not. High blood pressure, raised cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, obesity and family history quietly raise your risk for years before symptoms appear. Our emphasis is on detecting that risk early — through clinical assessment, bloodwork and non-invasive cardiac imaging — and reducing it with medication, lifestyle change and consistent follow-up.

We specialise in non-invasive cardiac imaging: resting and stress ECG, transthoracic echocardiography, Doppler studies of cardiac blood flow, ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring and Holter rhythm monitoring. These tests are painless, involve no radiation in the case of echo, and give a detailed picture of how your heart muscle, valves and rhythm are performing.

Where a condition needs interventional or surgical cardiology — angiography, stenting, pacemaker implantation or cardiac surgery — we stabilise, investigate and refer you to the appropriate hospital partner with a complete diagnostic workup in hand, then continue your follow-up care with us afterwards. Our cardiology team also works closely with our vascular surgery, neurology, general surgery and dietetics departments, because heart health rarely sits in isolation.

Our Approach

Three Principles That Define Our Cardiology Care

Catch risk early, investigate without unnecessary invasiveness, and stay with you for the long term.

Prevention Before Intervention

Most cardiac events are the end point of years of untreated risk. We measure that risk properly and treat it before it becomes an emergency.

Non-Invasive First

ECG, echocardiography, Holter and ambulatory BP monitoring answer most clinical questions safely, comfortably and without hospital admission.

Continuity of Care

Blood pressure, cholesterol and rhythm control are long games. We set targets, review them, and adjust — appointment after appointment.

Our Services

Core Cardiology Services & Diagnostics

A complete non-invasive cardiac workup available in a single clinic visit.

Electrocardiogram (ECG)

A quick, painless recording of your heart’s electrical activity — the first-line test for chest pain, palpitations, and pre-operative or pre-employment clearance.

Echocardiography (Heart Ultrasound)

Detailed ultrasound assessment of heart muscle function, pumping strength (ejection fraction), valve behaviour and chamber size — no radiation, no preparation required.

Stress / Exercise ECG

Monitored treadmill testing to reveal reduced blood flow to the heart that only appears under exertion — used to investigate exertional chest pain and breathlessness.

Holter & Rhythm Monitoring

Continuous 24–48 hour ECG recording worn at home to capture intermittent palpitations, skipped beats, dizziness or suspected atrial fibrillation.

Ambulatory Blood-Pressure Monitoring

24-hour automated blood-pressure readings that distinguish genuine hypertension from white-coat readings and confirm whether treatment is working.

Cardiac Risk Assessment & Screening

Structured evaluation of lipids, glucose, blood pressure, weight, lifestyle and family history — producing a clear risk profile and a written prevention plan.

High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
  • Why It Matters — Sustained high blood pressure is the single largest modifiable risk factor for stroke, heart attack, heart failure and kidney disease.
  • Usually Silent — Most people have no symptoms at all. Headaches and nosebleeds are the exception, not the rule, which is why screening matters.
  • Accurate Diagnosis — A single high reading in clinic is not a diagnosis. We confirm with repeat readings and, where needed, 24-hour ambulatory monitoring.
  • Treatment — Salt reduction, weight loss, exercise and alcohol moderation first, with medication added and titrated to reach your individual target.
  • Follow-Up — Blood pressure targets are reviewed regularly, alongside kidney function and cardiac assessment.
Cholesterol & Lipid Disorders
  • What We Measure — Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides and, in selected patients, lipoprotein(a) and ApoB.
  • Your Target Is Personal — The right LDL target depends on your overall cardiovascular risk, not on a single universal number.
  • Familial Hypercholesterolaemia — Very high cholesterol at a young age, or early heart disease in close relatives, warrants specific assessment and family screening.
  • Treatment — Dietary change coordinated with our dietetics team, exercise, and statin or other lipid-lowering therapy where risk justifies it.
  • Monitoring — Repeat lipid profiles confirm whether treatment is achieving target, with liver and muscle safety checks as indicated.
Chest Pain & Angina
  • Seek Emergency Care First — Severe, crushing or prolonged chest pain, especially with sweating, nausea or pain spreading to the arm or jaw, is a medical emergency. Call 998 or go to the nearest emergency department.
  • Stable Angina — Chest tightness that appears predictably on exertion and eases with rest suggests reduced coronary blood flow and needs prompt outpatient assessment.
  • Not All Chest Pain Is Cardiac — Reflux, musculoskeletal strain, anxiety and lung conditions are common causes; proper assessment separates them.
  • Our Workup — Clinical history, ECG, echocardiography, stress testing and bloodwork, escalating to hospital-based angiography where indicated.
  • After Diagnosis — Medication, risk-factor control and cardiac follow-up, coordinated with any interventional treatment you receive.
Palpitations & Arrhythmias
  • What Patients Describe — Racing, fluttering, thumping or skipped beats, sometimes with dizziness, breathlessness or fainting.
  • Common Causes — Ectopic beats, atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, thyroid disorders, anaemia, caffeine, stimulants and anxiety.
  • Atrial Fibrillation — The most important rhythm to detect, because untreated AF substantially raises stroke risk and is highly treatable once identified.
  • Catching It — Because palpitations come and go, Holter or extended ambulatory monitoring is often the only way to record the rhythm during an episode.
  • Management — Rate or rhythm control medication, anticoagulation where stroke risk warrants it, trigger reduction, and referral for ablation when appropriate.
Heart Failure
  • What It Means — The heart is not pumping or filling efficiently enough to meet the body’s demands. It is a manageable long-term condition, not an immediate ending.
  • Symptoms — Breathlessness on exertion or lying flat, ankle and leg swelling, fatigue, and reduced exercise tolerance.
  • Diagnosis — Echocardiography measures ejection fraction and valve function; bloodwork including natriuretic peptides supports the picture.
  • Modern Treatment — Guideline-directed medical therapy has transformed outcomes, alongside fluid and salt management and monitored exercise.
  • Ongoing Review — Regular weight, symptom, kidney-function and echo monitoring to keep treatment optimised.
Coronary Artery Disease
  • What Happens — Fatty plaque narrows the coronary arteries that supply the heart muscle, reducing blood flow and, if a plaque ruptures, causing a heart attack.
  • Who Is at Risk — Smokers, and people with diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, sedentary lifestyle or a strong family history.
  • Assessment — Risk scoring, ECG, echocardiography and stress testing, with CT coronary angiography or invasive angiography arranged where indicated.
  • Treatment Pathways — Optimal medical therapy for many patients; angioplasty and stenting or bypass surgery via our hospital partners for significant disease.
  • Secondary Prevention — After a cardiac event, aggressive risk-factor control measurably reduces the chance of a second one.
Valve & Structural Heart Disease
  • What It Covers — Narrowed (stenotic) or leaking (regurgitant) heart valves, and structural abnormalities of the heart chambers and walls.
  • How It Presents — Often first detected as a heart murmur, or through breathlessness, fatigue, chest discomfort or fainting.
  • Echocardiography Is Central — Ultrasound grades severity precisely and is repeated over time to track progression.
  • Watchful Waiting Is Valid — Many mild-to-moderate valve conditions need surveillance and risk management, not surgery.
  • When Intervention Is Needed — Timely referral for valve repair or replacement, followed by continued cardiology follow-up with us.
Preventive Heart Screening
  • Who Should Consider It — Anyone over 40, or younger with diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking history or a family history of early heart disease.
  • What It Includes — Clinical assessment, blood pressure, lipid profile, blood glucose or HbA1c, BMI, ECG and echocardiography where indicated.
  • What You Receive — A clear cardiovascular risk profile with your numbers explained, plus a written plan and review date.
  • Pre-Exercise Clearance — Useful before starting intensive training, and often coordinated with our sports medicine department.
  • Insurance — Direct billing is available with major UAE insurers; our team confirms eligibility before your appointment.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions we receive about cardiology and heart care at Chughtai Clinic Dubai.

1 When should I see a cardiologist in Dubai?
Book an appointment if you have chest pain or tightness, breathlessness on exertion, palpitations, dizziness or fainting, persistent swelling of the ankles, or if you have been told you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or a heart murmur. A preventive check is also worthwhile from around age 40, or earlier if heart disease runs in your family. Severe or sudden chest pain is an emergency — call 998 immediately rather than booking an appointment.
2 What is the difference between an ECG and an echocardiogram?
An ECG records your heart’s electrical activity and detects rhythm problems and signs of strain or previous damage. An echocardiogram is an ultrasound scan that shows the heart’s structure — how strongly it pumps, how the valves move, and the size of the chambers. They answer different questions and are often performed together.
3 Do I need to prepare for an ECG or echocardiogram?
No special preparation is needed for either test. Both are painless and non-invasive, take around 15–30 minutes, and you can eat and take your usual medication beforehand unless we specifically advise otherwise. Wear something easy to change out of, as electrodes are placed on the chest.
4 Is a stress test safe?
Yes. Exercise stress testing is performed under continuous ECG and blood-pressure monitoring with a clinician present throughout, and it is stopped immediately if you develop symptoms. It is not suitable for everyone, so we assess your suitability first and choose an alternative test where necessary.
5 Can high blood pressure be cured, or do I take tablets forever?
Blood pressure is controlled rather than cured. Some people with mild hypertension reach target through weight loss, reduced salt, exercise and alcohol moderation alone. Others need long-term medication. Either way, treatment is reviewed regularly and doses are adjusted — never stop medication on your own, as blood pressure usually rises again.
6 What causes palpitations, and are they dangerous?
Most palpitations are harmless extra beats triggered by caffeine, stress, poor sleep or dehydration. Some, however, are caused by rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation, which raises stroke risk and needs treatment. Because episodes come and go, we often use a 24–48 hour Holter monitor to record your rhythm while symptoms are actually happening.
7 Do you perform angiography, stenting or cardiac surgery?
Those are hospital-based interventional and surgical procedures. Our cardiology department provides consultation, non-invasive diagnostics and long-term medical management, and refers you to an appropriate hospital partner with a complete workup when intervention is required. We then resume your follow-up care after the procedure.
8 How often should I have a heart check-up?
For most healthy adults over 40 with no symptoms, an annual cardiovascular risk review including blood pressure and a lipid profile is reasonable. If you have diabetes, hypertension, established heart disease or a strong family history, your cardiologist will set a more frequent schedule based on your individual risk.
9 Is cardiology covered by my insurance?
We offer direct billing with all major UAE insurers. Coverage for consultations and cardiac diagnostics varies by policy, so our reception team will verify your eligibility and explain any co-payment before your appointment.
